Great Idea, Poor Implementation
After driving all the way from Salt Lake City Utah to attend this event, I'm pleased that I did, but I wouldn't do it again. The camp grounds, despite being cleaned daily, were always full of trash, and feces were found in inappropriate places like the toilet seats and shower stalls on multiple occasions. Lack of shade on the grounds forces you to endure the sun without relief, which can become overwhelming after three days.
In terms of the event itself, if you want to see any act on the main stage, VIP tickets are almost mandatory as regular ticket holders have limited visibility, especially when side screens are malfunctioning. The food and drinks are pricey, and not all vendors offer matching quality or prices, so choose wisely. Be prepared for portopottys as there is no running water available. The issue of chairs is also significant; while they are necessary for comfort during long events, their usage in the GA grass sections can be problematic when people reserve spots and leave them unattended, restricting space for others.
A major concern for my overall rating is the consistent technical issues experienced at the venue. Despite the event's long history and record attendance, technical problems persisted throughout the three days, including a 30-minute shutdown during Whitesnake's performance. The malfunctioning screens added to the frustration, with colors being flipped and distracting from the actual performances. Ensuring proper functioning of equipment should have been a priority, but unfortunately, it was not adequately addressed.
